As we try to understand more of how the Bible can help those who are hurting, we need to appreciate that there is a lot to learn. In addition to the material on this website, the resources page recommends specially selected books, which deal with a wide variety of subjects written by experienced and reputable authors.

Ever since the New Testament, Christians have sought to help fellow believers deal with the problems of life. The Puritans called this ‘soul care’, in the book of Romans, Paul used the word ‘admonish’ (Romans 15:14) , today we use the word counselling’. Whilst we may think of counselling as very formal and specialised, Biblical Counselling is the simple application of Scripture to the problems of life.

One of the best ways to quickly progress your understanding is to complete the training course. ACBC, as a certifying agency, does not provide qualifications recognised by the NHS or local authorities, but it does set a standard. Accredited members have to evidence that they have properly understood the necessary principles and can apply them to the counsellee. Even for those who do not want to become certified Biblical Counsellors, there is tremendous spiritual benefit from completing the training.

The basic course is split into three sections:

To help people in the UK appreciate what is involved with Phase 1, CBCD (Centre for Biblical Counselling and Discipleship) have provided 10 hours of free lectures which cover the first 10 hours of Phase 1 (Fundamentals). CBCD is one of ACBC’s registered training centres and provides teaching online for those who live in areas outside of the US. ACBC intend to hold teaching events in the UK but, as there are no training centres in the UK, the best option is online.

However, if you would like to undertake all of the Phase 1 learning then you can register with CBCD at https://thecbcd.org/track1international. CBCD have provided all their teaching material online for a discounted rate of £30 ($40) and can be accessed anytime that suits.
